"The legislation we are fighting for will make a difference and save lives; I'm asking Republicans to have some courage and take a stand for once. If Carlos Curbelo would rather pocket contributions from the NRA than save lives, then I challenge him to tell these families that cash for his reelection matters more than their safety," said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida's 26th Congressional District.

Joe Garcia has been a long-time advocate of responsible gun laws, including a new assault weapons ban, background checks on all gun sales and transfers as well as closing gun show loopholes that let guns enter the black market and the hands of criminals. The NRA has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to the elections of Garcia’s Republican opponent Carlos Curbelo and have given him top scores for voting against background checks on gun purchases, voting to relax gun restrictions and for even voting to allow suspected terrorists to buy assault rifles. The Brady Campaign, one of the nation’s leading anti-gun violence advocacy groups has rated Curbelo as a“Lap Dog” for the gun lobby.
