Miami, FL- Today, former Congressman Joe Garcia spoke to the members of the South Florida Tropical Fruit Growers during a Congressional Candidate forum covering a wide range of Agriculture policies. Garcia’s Republican opponent, Congressman Carlos Curbelo chose to skip the event.
“Our farmers work very hard and make incredible sacrifices to feed this community and they deserve to hear first-hand where their Congressman stands on agricultural issues, so it’s disappointing that Congressman Curbelo was absent”said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District.“South Florida has one of the largest concentrations of small farms in the country and I’m proud of the work I did in Congress to help South Florida’s farmers keep food on our dinner tables.”
Garcia worked to get results for farmers in Congress. He helped pass a bipartisan 5-year Farm Bill that provides specialty crop assistance, crop insurance, and other critical assistance to local farmers. Brought down Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to meet with the agriculture community and address their concerns.
Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015. He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats. National and local Democrats have invested heavily in Garcia, with the DCCC placing over $5 million in television and radio ads that are currently running in the district. Joe Garcia is beating Curbelo in the most recent poll.
