Miami, FL – Today, former Congressman Joe Garcia issued a statement on the shooting of six young people during a “Sweet Sixteen” party in Goulds, Florida over the weekend.
“It’s heartbreaking to see gun violence in our community, but even more so when our children are hurt by these senseless acts,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “When Congress refuses to pass responsible gun laws, innocent people pay the price. My thoughts are with the young victims, who we pray will make a full recovery, and that their families find justice.”
The victims are currently recovering while authorities continue looking for leads in their investigations. Information on the incident can be sent to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
Joe Garcia has been a long-time advocate of responsible gun laws, including background checks on all gun sales and transfers as well as closing gun show loopholes that let guns enter the black market and the hands of criminals. Garcia’s Republican opponent Carlos Curbelo opposes such reforms, voting against background checks on gun purchases, voting to relax gun restrictions and even voting to allow suspected terrorists to buy assault rifles.
